ABDB Designs is back on tour with their second stop, New York City. This time however, the stakes were raised.
Six months after their first-ever run of pop-up events in Chicago last June, co-founders Djivan Schapira and Andrew James knew they had to take their next series up a notch. This time around, being in the city where it all started, and with a vision of curating the pop-up entirely by themselves, Schapira and James needed to now find the right space. It was upon entering the dark, black canvas of the East Village Playhouse that they knew they may have something; once the chairs were cleaned out and the walls were touched up in black, it was time to create.
Schapira's total number of pieces included 15 from ABDB's Season 1 Collection to be displayed, as well as originally designed & handmade pieces created exclusively for the weekend's events. Once the room was set, the contrast of over 25 bright & colorful ABDB pieces paired with the dim, dark theater backdrop made for a vibrant and visual shock upon entering the room.
Friday started off with a Vernissage, or Private Viewing, extended to press and designers. The following evening had a more casual atmosphere, while Sunday was the most relaxed of the three. Over 100 people attended the pop-up throughout the weekend, with new and old clients purchasing their favorite pieces, and guests admiring how rare it was to be at a gathering surrounded by such unique art and furniture.
Continuing on their tour, ABDB Designs plans to make stops in LA and Miami in 2019.
